Performance Management Framework

The department’s framework operates within the wider context of performance management across the Australian Government. The department revised its Performance Management Framework in 2007 to better reflect and improve performance reporting links between the Outcomes and Outputs Framework and internal business planning and reporting.

The Performance Management Framework (see Figure 7.2) is used to:

  • develop business plans and performance information that are linked effectively to the Outcomes and Outputs Framework
  • maintain the ‘line of sight’ in business planning (as shown in Figure 7.2)
  • promote planning and reporting, for example, through induction training and information sessions.

The Performance Management Framework is a combination of the department’s business and people strategies [50] which foster an Open for Business approach. The framework interconnects with the wider framework of the department’s strategic plan, [51] ensuring that individual work contributes to achieving the department’s goals.
